Supporting Working Families
Jewish California (formerly JPAC)
Jewish California is the nation's largest statewide coalition of Jewish organizations. We represent California's diverse Jewish community through legislative advocacy – not political endorsements or contributions.
Our mission is to advance a more just and equitable California by combating hate, expanding social services, uplifting vulnerable populations, and strengthening the systems working families rely on.
Our Coalition
Jewish California is the advocacy arm for more than 40 Jewish organizations statewide that collectively serve hundreds of thousands of Californians of all faiths and backgrounds.
Our member agencies are among California's leading providers of social and human services:
-
Jewish Family Service agencies help families meet basic needs, focusing on older adults, people with disabilities, foster youth, and unhoused families.
-
Jewish Federations and JCRCs advance security and anti-hate initiatives.
-
HIAS and Jewish Family Service agencies lead refugee resettlement statewide, including San Diego Rapid Response Network's Asylum Seeker Shelter and Services.
-
Bet Tzedek provides vital legal aid for unhoused, trans, and undocumented individuals, as well as those facing wage theft, eviction, and financial abuse.
-
MAZON and Jewish Family Service agencies fight hunger and provide nutrition benefits.
-
Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters, JVS, and NCJW mentor youth, expand career opportunities, and support survivors of domestic violence.
These agencies overwhelmingly serve low-income communities of color, and many of their staff are unionized.
Our Advocacy in Sacramento
Jewish California sponsors and supports legislation and budget investments that strengthen California's safety-net systems and promote dignity for all. Our recent priorities include:
-
Immigrant and Refugee Support: Expanding refugee case management and asylum seeker services, and securing health, food, and safety net benefits for all – regardless of immigration status.
-
Social and Economic Stability: Advancing policies that promote housing security, food access, mental health care, and economic mobility for working families.
-
Civil Rights and Equity: Supporting efforts to advance racial justice, LGBTQ equality, reproductive rights, and statewide anti-hate initiatives.
-
Education and Community Safety: Promoting education equity and anti-bias programs, strengthening Holocaust and genocide education, and protecting communities through nonprofit security grants and hate-prevention initiatives.
Our Commitment
Jewish California's work is grounded in partnership – across faith, ethnic, and labor communities – to build a California where every person can live with safety, dignity, and opportunity.
